Thank you Master @Richard Bona
❤ you totally get the point why people want to have John Patitucci in their bands, not (only) the bassist but the wonderful person he is. Thank you for being around, John (and for indefinitely having shaped my musical mind!)
Merece todo mi adorado Herb ! Todos los homenajes habidos y x haber, es una gran estrella!! Nunca habrá alguien como el !! Mis respetos Sr Herb!!🌹👏👏🎺☺️👍👍👍
Marcus is a PHENOMENAL MUSICIAN who happens to be a PHENOMENAL BASSIST!!! A world-class and world-renowned bassist who is intelligent, knowledgeable, cool, and humble!!! His take on fusion and the bassist's responsibility in the band is spot on along with the Steve Gadd experience!!! Thank you for the fantastic and revealing Marcus Miller interview!
Thanks for this. Always . wanted to listen to Mr. Winter in an interview.
Amazing solo by Felipe Muggiati-Feldman at 42:44!
these videos would be awesome if the sound was improved. I think the camera mikes don't make justice to what happens there. greetings from Spain
First time I heard someone telling the truth about improvisation. You ‘re so right Richard. It doesn’t exist , it is indeed repetition and reorganisation by systems . Except maybe for Bach and Sylvain Luc.
The player’s name please! There is no Music whitout Musicians!
👏🏾👏🏾
John is my favorite bassist. I have a poster of him with his Yamaha Trb 6p on my room wall. I’ve got all his cd’s too & not forgetting his signature bass. I just love him. Thank you NYU Steinhardt Jazz Studies for this interview.
No questions about his studio work with Steely Dan?
He mentions that John Scofield asked to borrow his amp for a studio date with drummer Horacee Arnold. But Arnold’s first solo record “Tribe” didn’t include a guitar player, and on his better known follow up “Tales of the Exonerated Flea” the guitarist was John Abercrombie. Those albums were released in 1973 and 1974. Maybe Scofield played a little bit with Arnold, but I don’t think he played a recording date with him.
Hello Vince. all i want to do is bang on my drums all day long " oh i wish i had the time in this hyper active country . any ways i would like to say you remind me of Jimmy Cobb . full circle? yes ! Jimmy Cobb was a real gentleman and wow he played drums on Miles best selling record record Kind of Blue and of course you know this for sure . Jimmy was a real gentleman and a great genius jazz drummer. he never criticized other fellow drummers when interviewed decades after about personnel details about anybody he worked with just to make a buck 💰💰 . you Vince don't play that 😊😊game either i admire that . take comfort that you come from a good and talented family . good luck moving forward . Have a good one 👍✌️and thank you . 😊
I liked when Vince played his red colored drum set in Miles band . Vince played a strong groove and back beat on his snare because that's what Miles wanted at this time in his musical journeys ( mid 1980s )
No one is best but this is fucking best❤️🙏❤️
best parents care dog coco lab puppy
A total class act
You’re so right The melody is so important in beautiful music As a drummer I follow Nick Ceroli’s epitaph “The Music Comes First”
The world is such a better place when Herb’s music is playing. He is my music world. Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass❤
John Coltrane is a sacred cow and people cannot get in their minds that Michael Brecker is far beyond Coltrane in all aspects of music…Just listen to all his work and it is actually a joke comparing Coltrane to Mike.
Could someone write me the names and school that the interviewer mentions in the question? minute 24:10 I can't understand
5:25
I don’t function properly outside my practice hours.

Great interview! The intro music to the post is great! Who is the artist or artistes?
Silver Hollw... beautiful ! I met Jack , in tje early 90's, in my hometown , , Joao Pessoa, in Brazil . A great musician, and s nicee guy ! Thank you WE
❤ Karen Carpenter, Herb Alpert, and Lani Hall , forever❤
I saw Paul McCandless play with the Paul Winter Consort @the annual Winter Solstice Concert in NYC ‘16…Excellent Show and Venue(St. John the Divine Church)
❤amazing bassist.
He’s one of the greatest in all the world 🔥🎶❤️🙏🏾
Icon. Always there, even when he's gone.
I was at The Bottom Line when Tom recorded "Apple Juice," January 1981. Even got a few words with Tom afterwords.
Great show, However I miss the interviews of Jazz artists this channel use to produce!
I dont know why not 93 the music ia timeless
Love this!!
I always knew he was a great bass player, but now I realize the greatness of his overall musicianship. And what profound and good human being he is. Moving interview. Respect, John!
@53:45 "if you're the kind of person who's in a conversation and you're thinking about the next you're going to say.. we've all played with people who aren't listening to you, they're thinking about what they're going to say" Greatest bit of knowledge there. Sadly, this interview started with just that. Marcus asks how Dave is doing and he just rolls with the questions and didn't answer. and the look on Marcus' face was telling.
Love you Jimmy Cobb. I have an autographed picture right here that my mom received in 1955 autographed by you, Keter, and Dinah it’s a treasure to me.❤ rest in peace, sweet drummer
Great stuff 👍🏾
I could listen to Lani's voice all day long. She could release an audiobook about a topic I don't like and I'd still buy it lol
A jazz legend interviewed by my (almost) brother...I love this interview!
A living legend!!
Great interview with a great musician. Thank you!
My circle of fond musicians and I used to play a number of Steve's Eyewitness works decades back, such as Blades, or their utter punk version of Penetration - a welcomed study/thorough ass kicking. Pulling such material off authentically was both a challenge, and eventually, a satisfying self-accomplishment. So imagine my thrill when a pal passed Steve's email to me. Normally I'd not reach out and be a bother, but our mutual acquaintance said he likes to hear from people. Inspired as such, I immediately followed through, just to introduce myself, rave about recordings etc. Not only did Steve write me back sincere, thorough emails, but duped and mailed bootlegs, or Import label stuff of his onto CDs for me...we talked about our shared love of hockey too, of course. I wished I'd kept in touch, but also didn't want to be a pest. One impactful thing I recall is Steve communicating with me as if I were a mutual contemporary of his - like, on his level (!!) - not as a fan, but a fellow professional - something I've been careful to emulate when speaking with other players, whether a student, a hobbyist or fellow professionals. I got that trait directly from interacting with Steve - BE a good example.
Wow. He mentions strife in the middle east. This was 7 years ago and now in October 2023 the place had exploded. I take it that he leans towards the Palestinians because he says there yearning to be free. I could be wrong. I'll be seeing him and lani tomorrow night in Tacoma Washington.
There was another war in 2014. Netanyahu has been in power off and on since 1996. Why?
Love you JP
Absolutely Beautiful!! Smart, and smart WOW, Good interview.
This interview is very inspiring. Thanks
